Selfie revised concept image 30.05.14

"selfie" Revised concept image. using just the two current ground layers I have revised the concept image for Selfie. I will keep using this technique as I build the next two ground layers introducing blue and green hues.

Layers one and two of "selfie". The scale of this peice can be measured against the height of the door. The next layer will be a gradual build up of blue from the top left corner gradually becoming more transparent as the colour moves towards the center canvas. Conversely  a layer of green will build from the bottom right canvas as a forth layer. I have been using a thick brush and rag to appy the colour then pressing porous shelf liners to pull paint off the canvas to create texture.

"Selfie" is a group of nine 50cmx60cm paintings that make up one "selfie". I have a large wall in our Copenhagen apartment dining rm and the plan is to hang these 9 canvases and gradually build up the selfie image as I paint each canvas. I will start with my usual layers of colour grounds and I am thinking they will shift slightly in colour or perhaps hue from one canvas to another. After I have built up the figure I will add a surface layer of texture using the ground colours so the figure will receed in certain areas. I am hoping the negative space between the canvases will be like inverted window transoms and mullions.The idea is to have the figure receed a fair amount so the viewer doesn't quite see it at first. My thinking is that the T zone of the face will be the most obvious but that most likely will change through the course of the process.

The male figure is at a crossroads as the female figure fades in and out of the picture. What's more important, the "stuff " in our lives or the relationships. The female figure is a digital projection which fades and returns at 10 second intervals.

Still need some work on panel two figures need to disappear more into the water. Perhaps slight change of female figure palette.
